Summary
UHC has the worst customer service system I have ever been forced to reckon with. Endless automated loops that force you to enter your subscriber # and DOB multiple times, exceedingly limited selection options in that automated system that make it impossible to get the information you need (unless it's *really* basic), and uninformed telephone reps who have, in my experience, hung up on me when I asked to speak with a supervisor. They never assign you a case manager or give you a direct dial number so you can speak with someone who already knows your situation. Never. During my 3rd trimester, I was given 1 month's notice that the hospital where I was to deliver was no longer going to be in network. I have done my best to follow their conflicting instructions for how to obtain a waiver and have not received an adequate or conclusive response from UHC. The contract is set to expire in 2 weeks and I still don't know whether I can stick with my current doctors or not. If they continue to move this slow and communicate this poorly, I could get stuck with $10-15K in bills. If your employer is considering using UHC as your carrier, beg them not to. If you are interviewing for a job and UHC is the provider, keep looking.

Summary
I would like to express an opinion and would hope that this email will reach all of the corporate officers of UHC since there is no contact information on their website. Our company just switched our employee healthcare insurance from Blue Cross/Blue Shield to UHC and I am so very disappointed in the change in coverage for Prosthetics. My husband is the bravest and most determined man that I know personally. He was in a near fatal accident almost 2 years ago. After several surgeries to save his leg, his right leg was amputated below the knee and a titanium rod replaced his femur above the knee. Ivan works in the construction industry. His employer was very supportive and saved his job for him for the 7 months it took him to rehabilitate himself. He wears a below the knee prosthetic. He worked hard to be able to go back to work and do the same job he has always done - and he succeeded! But now, our future is unclear. When my husband requires repair or replacement of his prosthetic leg, he may be forced to stop working because we cannot afford to pay the amount of the HUGE gap in our UHC insurance policy limit and the true cost of an artificial leg. In return for the premiums we pay for health insurance, we expect to be covered for catastrophic injury or illness. It appears that UHC has decided to severely limit coverage for prosthetic limbs. Arms and legs are not a luxury! They are a necessity to lead a productive life! Imagine a child losing a limb to disease or injury and having to face growing up in a wheel chair when prosthetic limbs are readily available, but not attainable, due to such poor coverage in the family's medical insurance policy. I understand that there are some states that have a state mandate that requires prosthetic coverage within the same parameters as Medicare coverage. Shame on United Healthcare for having to be forced by law to provide coverage that is reasonable and such a necessity of a decent and productive life. Prosthetic coverage without limits is the right thing to do. Will UHC do the right thing?

Summary
Pathetic service. Have been waiting for a letter of insurability for three months. Have made several phone calls to customer service who refuse to forward the complaint to a supervisor. Are currently being sent to collections for a bill our current insurance will not pay without the letter of insurability from United Health Care. This has now been going on since early November. If you need something from United Health Care,,,,,good luck.

I was badly injured and my car was totally damaged in one accident when i was coming back from my work place. United health care has done a lot for me. Previously my other insurance sent me a letter stating that after their investigation they will determine that who is responsible for the incident. What kind of investigation is that when they are not saying the truth. I feel United health care is the best insurance when it comes to the road accidents
