2007 is the first year I have used Metlife for my husband and me. We feel the premiums are reasonable and have had no problems at all with claims. Sometimes the dental office makes a mistake and bills Metlife first and then it is a little messier, but that is the dental office billing causing the problems. They have been asked many times to bill Blue Cross/Blue Shield first even though they cover only the two exams per year. When they do that, all goes smoothly. Have only had routine dental checkups that have worked well. Now I'm waiting to see how everything goes with my recent root canal that my BC/BS will pay zero on and Metlife is supposed to pay 50%.

Anyone who has had a more comprehensive dental plan will be disappointed. We're being forced into MetLife Dental at work this year, and there are no participating in-network dentists within 30 miles. It's one of the few our current dentist won't accept (other than billing us in full up front and filing a claim for us as a courtesy).
I wish I could turn the clock back and just decline dental coverage and save the almost 40 bucks a month for my wife and me. We could probably self-insure our dental needs in the long term with that.
I don't have an opinion yet about the service or the claims, but I had to enter something so I made it neutral. But the coverage sucks, at least in terms of participating dentists.

I think that it is great coverage compared to other dental insurances. I work for the federal government and I have 5 kids. This insurance is much cheaper and covers a great variety of dental issues compared to other companies. It is very easy to utilize. We have had other plans from big insurance companies and they were much tougher to get claims paid out than METLIFE is. They are the cheapest dental insurance for payouts and they cover more than any of the other ones that I have ever dealt with. In addition, they pay for quite a bit of dental work (like braces for the wife) compared to other companies. I could not afford it with the other companies. I have been really impressed. I give them an A+ so far.

I will be canceling federal MetLife dental. Just as people have written before, they have a long list of excuses for not paying dental claims that my federal health insurance already paid, and they require a tremendous amount of paperwork from dentists as they ask for more and more information. My wife and I end up spending way too much time trying to keep track of MetLife information requests and convince dentists that they want to fill out yet more paperwork for MetLife (this is after fed BC/BS already paid). Then to top it all off, my FSAFeds self-pay account won't pay a dime on my out of pocket expenses until MetLife dental determines what they will pay. This is really infuriating.

Metlife dental insurance is the biggest scam going. They flat out rejected the cost of inspecting my teeth and I was stuck with paying $90 along with additional costs because of only partial coverage. Metlife will tell you that it will cover the cost, then when they see the specifics, they decide not to. I have never had worse dental insurance.

It really sucks. This is the last time I will ever be a Metlife member. They want to collect your premium not missing a penny. When it comes to claim, they will find all reasons not to pay the dentist . The dentist has to prove once, twice and hundred times before they pay out a penny . I strongly recommend You not to sign with Metlife dental care.
It is better to put your health deductible money into FSAFEDS to cover your expense. It is quick and easy. Stay AWAY from Metlife .

The other driver who hit me was faulty. I was badly injured and my car was totally damaged. That person had run the red light and crashed me . Metlife insurance has done a lot for me. Previously my other insurance sent me a letter stating that after their investigation they will determine that I was responsible in running the red light. How dare them to determine such a GREAT lie. What kind of investigation is that when they are not saying the truth. Hmm i feel Metlife is the best insurance when it comes to the road accidents.

My 18 year old son met with a horrible accident. Metlife made a truly horrifying experience much easier for me. I had no problem to track down any for help or make a ton of phone calls. I will continue to use Metlife for my car insurance, and will switch my home insurance to them as soon as my current policies expire. It is a real pleasure dealing with people who are here to make a difference.
