Used to be a reasonable cost health insurance option, but rates have been climbing very fast and coverage gradually reduced to keep costs down. They have good doctors and facilities, but have declined covering certain procedures which I paid out of pocket with independent doctors. Example was vericose veins treatment. Spent $3,000 for successful VNUS surgery which should have been covered. Can't be healthy to walk around with bulging veins in your leg. Daughter needed physical therapy and sent us to $300 an hour treatment not covered until 5k deductible met. Best plan we could find being self-employed.

As a patient, checking the statement of the charge from them is the most confusing, felt cheated and unfair experience.

We applied for insurance in Sep 2008 but received a letter stating that we need to get a pregnancy test before we are approved. The letter clearly stated the Kaiser Permanente facility to visit and that the test would be at no cost to us. Few months after the test (which was requested by Kaiser and not by us) we received a bill for the test. On informing Kaiser they realized that the bill was sent in error and asked us to ignore the bill. Few weeks later we again received the bill. Even when we filled an official grievance with Kaiser our request was denied. We still have the letter that clearly states that the test would be at no cost to us and yet Kaiser won't stop from harassing us with bill *** we don't owe *** . Getting hold of representative in yet another painful experience. In short, if you are buying insurance with Kaiser be prepared for harassment.

Whatever you do ...NEVER get the employee savings plan they offer !!! You will pay regular premiums and FULL price for Dr. visits , but you will NOT be able to use this plan because Kaiser picks and chooses what is towards your Deductable and you may as well go to your local Dr , because it will cost the same .With this employee "savings/reimbursment" plan , you pay the full price for everything and you know how Kaiser likes to send everyone for tests and what-not .I'm keeping it for right now , in case of an emergency , but I'll go near my home to a Dr , saves gas too !!!

As any normal individual, I was also under the tension on how to get an insurance plan that can satisfy my personal needs as well as my family. Price was always a major concern for me.
