We've had two different incidents where we/our vehicles were struck by an American Family policy holder, and both times we have had slower that slow claim service, and just all out annoyance. When you have a liability claim, take care of those people too.

We switched to this company because we were told that this was the best insurance we could ever purchase. This is a great company on paper as long as you never need to file a claim and actualy use the insurance that you have purchased. This company will do everything they can to find a exclusion to not have to cover you. It sure makes you feel like this is a waist to pay insurance as a requirement and know that you still will not be secure of coverage. What is the point. This company has the worst customer relation I have ever delt with. The agents don't even come out to meet with you when you have a claim, they just want to handle over the phone. Now I know why. This is so they don't have do deal with you in person and tell you they found a loop hole to not cover you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After many years (10+) of insurance with them with no claims, no late pays, we have had nothing but grief with the Keokuk Ia. They said we had to put on new roof, we did. They said we had to reside the garage. We did. A year goes by. Then they said we had to reside the house - in the middle of winter deep freeze. We said first thing come spring - the contractors protected it with plywood and plastic where it had blown off. They said nope had to be now . So we did. Then we received notice that we needed to replace the roof and garage siding. The local agent took pictures, never sent them to corporate in over a year. Local agent gave poor service. We tell them so. Then we receive notice that we are canceled because we didn't fix the front siding on the house, but we did, a month prior just like they asked. You know what, I'm just tired of having to fight to pay them my easy premiums every month - poor service, poor agent. Don't bother with these guys. I can only imagine the run around with a claim would be. And now since we don't live there they said to reinstate it would be a commercial policy. Does it ever end with them ? I don't feel I could trust them at all.

If you want to go for home insurance, then this is the right place. Being associated with American Family for more than two years, it has never let me down. According to me, they have the best customer care. So the next time you look for health insurance, home and property insurance, vehicle insurance, life insurance, never hesitate to go for American Family.

I have had auto insurance and homeowners insurance through American Family for many years (three for homeowners and seven plus for auto). My main reason for this was because of convenience. It was not until recently I started searching after rates were increased because I was randomly selected for an increase (I’m not kidding this is what I heard word for word) that I started exploring other options and I realized how much I have been overpaying for insurance. I have determined I could get twice the homeowners and auto coverage from three separate companies compared to how much I am paying now! Recently we had a major ice storm move through the area. I contacted American Family and they were pretty good to make sure a claim representative contacted me ASAP, however, that is all I can say good about them. The rep responded and come up with unreasonable figures. I am not sure about you, but I can not remember the last time a hail storm hit and a ice storm that resulted in damage to a roof, siding, and gutters (along with the hole in the wall from the tree falling through the house) only costing a little over $4000 to fix! The electrician alone just to restore power was around $300 and that was out of pocket until the check came through over a month after people started receiving checks from other insurance companies.To top it off that $4,000 included almost $400 worth of food loss. I contacted insurance and they told me they only expect me to fix individual shingles and pieces of siding, including just the five-foot hole in my house! The three boards quoted on the privacy fence for damage have turned into 15 after the ice cleared. Beware first time homebuyers. In a pinch you can have homeowners insurance to close on a house but you really should shop around as you get what you pay for.

American Family Insurance is horrible! I will never ever go back to them for anything!

I have worked with American Family Insurance the company based in Wisconsin not the one whose description is below (I think people are commenting on the wrong page...) And to me they have THE BEST customer service! I am an agent assistant and work in a proffesional building with two other agents and the district manager. All of them work very hard to make sure that our clients are completly satisfied! Our Auto rates are SUPERB if you have a decent driving record and if you multiline. For example most of the time I find that if you have a good driving record and rent that getting both your autos and your renters together will in fact come out cheaper than getting your autos alone! Now thats added protection that you can use! Yes, we use a credit risk score to base our home insurance scores but what big company doesn't! American Family is one of the top five insurance companies in Illinois! People should ask why something happens before they write it off! By doing a credit history on you, the insurance company factors in your debt to income ratio among other things, there have been many many studies that show if you owe more that you make you are more likely to file a claim. Plus if you have not filed any claims American Family gives you a discount! They offer so many discounts its ridiculous! And for Teens? They are the only company working with the teen safe driving program, if you have a novice driving teen American Family will install a camera that has proven to reduce car accidents and most importantly deaths among teens. The best part is that it's FREE! I love working for American Family Insurance!

I have been with American Family for over 5 years for my auto insurance. I have had to file 2 claims (being rear-ended and hail storm damage). The company was very attentive, prompt, and I have ZERO complaints. My premium is reasonable and I am very satisfied with American Family!

Goes by score regardless if you have NO home claims. Ours was JACKED UP to $500 extra which will raise our House payment. we have teens and normal things that americans have that bite you in the shorts and they will DROP YOU LIKE A HOT ROCK if you need them. We pay them thousands of dollars for the past 7 years and I tell ya what if you are getting good service now. It will be one big bummer when you file a claim Rock chips or a teen speeding ticket. Stay away from this company I cannot wait to cancel!
